PEDS (Pediatric Educational Device System) is a mobile application that curates user-friendly and age-appropriate content based on the patient's current medical situation. PEDS uses videos, infographics, and credible articles to simplify medical terms and procedures and make them easier for patients and families to understand. The app utilizes artificial intelligence to facilitate and enhance the learning experience. This helps take away any fear or stress that comes from being unable to comprehend the situation fully.
How Does It Work?
PEDS consists of a software platform for healthcare professionals and a mobile application for patients and families.
The software allows physicians to create patient profiles with accurate medical information to ensure the content curated is relevant. Healthcare professionals will be able to update patient schedules, send updates and track patients' health. It also gives physicians deeper insights into what type of information resonates most with a given age group, the most frequently asked questions and which key aspects of particular medical conditions they should highlight during physical conversations with patients.
The patient's side of the application consists of a profile and customizable avatar based on the patient and falls under one of three categories: parent/guardian, child or young adult. This helps curate and present age-appropriate content to ensure the patient or family members are getting content that is easily understood for their age group.
Parents/guardians get adult-based content, including academic articles, to avoid turning to Google and getting non-credible data and information.
Children get very simplified information in the form of simulated conversations, text, videos, and pictures to ensure they have a general idea of what is happening without overloading them and stressing them out.
Young adult content provides more detail but is still simple and easy to comprehend through videos and infographics. Young adults have the option to read more detailed content such as academic articles if they wish.
